Thomas Durbin Field (#44) and Betsy Smallwood (#43)
Thomas was born on the 20th of October 1864 at 62 Great Lister Street, Aston which was in
the registration district of Duddeston. Thomas was the son of John Field (#109) and Mary Masters (#110).
Betsy Smallwood (#43) who was the daughter of Edward Smallwood (#174) and Eliza Wiggin (#175)
was born at 11.00 pm on the 26th of April 1866 at 7 Claverdon St., Aston which was also in the
registration district of Duddeston.
Betsy had a twin sister called Ann.
They married on the 13th February 1888 in Nechells. They were married, after banns, by James
Thomas Butlin B.A. who was the vicar at St. Clement, Nechells. Their witnesses were Ann
Smallwood and Walter Brinkworth.
At the time of their wedding Thomas was residing at 4 Barrack Street, Ashted, Birmingham and
Betsy was residing at 318 Nechells Park Road.
Thomas died in the Birmingham General Hospital circa 1936.
Betsy died on the 15th of May 1938 after 2 nights in the Roxton Rest Home, Birmingham Road,
Wylde Green on the outskirts of Sutton Coldfield.
Thomas was employed as a Postal Worker. On his marriage certificate his profession is given
as Postman.
Their children (who were all born at 40, Malvern Hill Rd., Nechells):
i Lilian Betsy Field (#39) was born in 1890.
ii Gladys May Field (#37) was born on 1st of March 1892.
iii Edith Field (#36) born 15th August 1894.
iv Thomas John Field (#111) born in 1896.
v Dorothy Daisy Field (#40) born in 1898.
vi Mabel Alexandra Field (#45) was born in 1902.
vii Albert Edward Field (#38)was born in 1908.
